JPI ACQUIRES THREE CUSTOM MACHINING CENTERS

(Amherst, NH)   Johnson Precision, Inc. (JPI), an Amherst, New Hampshire-based custom molder and mold maker, announced the acquisition of three new machining centers, two Robodrills and a Doosan S280N.

"Saving time and money," according to JPI's CEO, Richard St.Onge, "that is what this equipment acquisition translates to for our domestic and international customers."  These high-end machining centers were added to JPI's custom mold making and machining service lines which already included 3 Mitsubishi wire EDM machines, 3 Mitsubishi vertical CNC EDM machines, 1 Fanuc Robodrill High-Speed Miller, several Microcut Milling Machines and a Topwell/Anilam TW96 Bed Milling Machine.

Intended to supplement both mold making and custom machining services, the company expects these machining centers will allow it to continue to provide high-end technology-based products.  "This equipment acquisition represents JPI's continued commitment to leading the New England injection molding community in cutting-edge technology."

Custom Machining:  JPI was an early local leader in vertical and wire CNC machining.  With overseas competition eroding domestic manufacturing in a number of industries, JPI committed itself to new manufacturing technologies.  Doing so enabled it to provide supplemental services to plastic injection molding customers not previously, or even now commonly, available.  As insert molding specialists, JPI routinely utilizes machined sub-components in the plastic injection molding process.  Previously, the components were manufactured by customer-specified vendors.

Leveraging its expertise as master-mold makers, however, JPI committed itself to machining the same sub-components its customers were outsourcing.  Those customers are reaping the benefits.  According to St.Onge, "The net affect is that with our equipment, we are capable of machining better sub-components for our customers and doing so in-house.  It enables us to compress the overall production time table and control the production schedule of those parts.  Doing so translates into quicker initiation of the subsequent steps of device fabrication (overmolding, assembly etc.) which is dependent upon the availability of the machined sub-components.  The bottom line is that we can get the parts done faster in-house and turn our injection molding department loose sooner.  The result? Well, ask our customers -- on time, if not early, and on budget."

Mold Making:  JPI's full-service mold making capabilities, as supplemented by its machining centers makes it truly unique in the domestic molding industry.  JPI can build and service the molds that run in its  machines.  That level of control and scrutiny inevitably leads to better product for customers.  With these acquisitions, JPI can continue to be the leader in tight tolerance, complex mold making and device fabrication.

An ISO 9001 certified company, JPI specializes in high-end medical, electronic and other, plastic injected, specialty devices while also offering additional manufacturing capabilities including laser marking; and microscopic TIG welding.  Visit JPI on the web at www.jpi-plastics.com.
