Engineering File Formats
JPI’s Design Department uses the most current version of SolidWorks to develop 3D tool designs, therefore, when submitting engineering files for JPI review, revision or design, native Solid Works files are preferred.
JPI also has the capability to import a variety of translated files as follows:
1. When submitting SolidWorks native drawings <.slddrw>, please include the solid part models <.sldprt>, and assembly files <.sldasm>, to which the drawings refer. These files are required to open a SolidWorks format drawing.
2. Article drawings can be opened in several formats: <.slddrw>, <.dwg>, <.pdf> and <.edrw>. (Solid models, if available, should also be forwarded).
3. When article drawings are not available but solid models are, JPI’s Design Department can create a reference article drawing from the solid model.
4. JPI can also import translated files from non-SolidWorks users in the following formats, preferably in this order:
a. Parasolid format <.x_t> translations.
b. STEP file <.stp> translations
c. IGES <.igs> translation, although accepted, is least preferred.
